How Adam Became an Intern with Rep. Karen Bass
There were hundreds of people in the audience at Congresswoman Karen Bass's August Town Hall in West Los Angeles. A line of people were patiently waiting at a microphone to ask questions. Adam El-Sahn, dressed in a suit and tie, waited nervously for his turn. While most people wanted to ask Rep. Bass about issues of public policy, Adam had a much different request.
After what seemed like forever, he stepped forward and cleared his throat.
“My name is Adam El-Sahn and I would like to intern in your office in Washington. I brought my resume and I was hoping you might consider me.”
The audience in the large Windward School gymnasium erupted in supportive applause and Congresswoman Karen Bass invited him on stage to shake his hand and happily take his resume. Three months later, Adam, a recent UCLA grad, started his first official day on Capitol Hill as a congressional intern.
Adam had always been interested in public service. He saw it as an ongoing obligation to society to help make the world a better place. So he took to the internet to figure out how to intern for Congress and found Rep. Karen Bass.
Now, Adam interns in Rep. Bass’ office five days a week helping to respond to constituent concerns, helping the staff on research, and doing necessary work to help keep her office running.
On Saturday, November 22 Rep. Bass will be hosting another Town Hall. She invites you to come with all your questions. You never know what the result may be.
