I want to thank Congresswoman Lawrence and Congresswoman Frankel, for their leadership and the Democratic Women’s Working Group for putting this together.
“I am deeply concerned about this administration’s handling of the current situation in Venezuela. I am especially alarmed by the President’s most recent statement that deploying the United States military is an option. The role of the U.S.
“Ralph Northam served in our nation’s military, treated thousands of families as a medical doctor, and had the audacity to ask for Black votes when he wanted to become governor, yet never once mentioned that he thought it was ok to be in black face or dressed as a Klansman.
“While today marks the beginning of Black History Month, we know that Black History is 365 days per year. Our history gave America its first clock, the world its first pacemaker and literally built the walls of the building that the State of the Union will be given in next week.
“Congress has an important role to play in foreign policy across the continent of Africa and I am honored to serve as Chair of this subcommittee. I look forward to continuing our bipartisan work especially in the areas of human rights, democracy, rule of law, and economic development. I am also particularly interested in finding ways to strengthen US-Africa economic relations.
