Bass Condemns Trump Administration Raids in Mississippi

Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, federal immigration officials raided several food-processing plants in Mississippi and arrested approximately 680 people. These raids took place on the first day of school for the local school districts, meaning many of the arrested workers’ children returned home to no parents. Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) issued the following statement in response:

“The raids that took place today have created senseless trauma and is an incredible waste of taxpayer dollars,” said Rep. Bass. “Under this Administration, roughly 680 men, women, fathers, mothers, and care-takers were arrested and held for hours. Although some were released, many of these individuals were unable to pick up their children from their first day of school. Now, those innocent children will continue to endure additional trauma as they are placed into the child warfare system. Our child warfare system is designed to protect children from abusive and neglectful parents. It is moments like this that confirm these innocent children were and continue to be abused by the Trump Administration. It is clear this Administration has no shame as they continue their ruthless attacks against immigrant families and their communities."
