Press Release
LOS ANGELES - Today, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, released the following statement after the House of Representatives unanimously passed the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Amendment Act.

“I’m proud of this body for passing this important piece of legislation that lays out the steps for improving bilateral relations between the United States and Zimbabwe.  The timing is important given that elections are scheduled for next week and this bill seeks to encourage free, fair and transparent elections,” said Rep. Bass. “As I’ve said before, this election is an opportunity for the country to set itself on a new trajectory. That is why I’m headed to Zimbabwe to serve as an election observer. This bill is an essential and important step and I look forward to working with Zimbabwe as they work toward restoring the rule of law, improving governance, and respecting human rights."
