Rep. Bass Addresses Dramatically Escalated Violence In Sudan

June 6, 2019
Press Release
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, issued the following statement responding to the reported discovery of bodies in the Nile River.

“I condemn the recent attacks in Sudan where many were killed and hundreds were injured. This appears to be a planned attack to repress the Sudanese people’s right to free assembly and abandon the rule of law.  As bodies are recovered from the Nile, the United States and the international community must call for an investigation into this attack. We must continue to support the people of Sudan in their desire to protest peacefully and continue to call on the Sudanese military and transitional leaders to adhere to a peaceful and timely transition to solution to a civilian-led government.”
