Rep. Bass, LGBTQ Caucus Mark Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20, 2017
Press Release
WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) and the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus recognized Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day that marks the visibility and understanding of the transgender community through ally-ship, education and resilience in the face of oppression.

“I hope all Americans will join me in honoring the memories of all transgender people who are victims of violence, here and around the globe,” said Rep. Bass. “Too often, transgender people, especially transgender people of color, face discrimination in employment, housing, and health care. As a society there is hope we are becoming more accepting, but this epidemic of violence shows us how far we have to go. I will continue to work for the rights and safety of all Americans until everyone is safe and secure and transgender people are not losing their lives because of hatred and fear.”
