Rep. Bass Slams White House For Blocking UN Vote On Ceasefire

May 9, 2020
Press Release
Today, Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations issued the following statement in response to the United States preventing a vote by the United Nations Security Council on a resolution urging a ceasefire in war-ravaged countries to focus resources on the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

"The Trump administration’s latest action to veto a UN resolution that called for a global ceasefire in order to collectively address this pandemic is yet another indicator that they are completely uninterested in cultivating a unified international front to combat this disease. The COVID-19 pandemic will only end when there is a concerted worldwide approach to eradicating this disease and the devastating health and economic consequences. That’s how Ebola was handled by President Obama. You would think the country that has the most deaths and highest infection rates would be taking this more seriously and not voting against resolutions for global peace and unity."
