Rep. Bass on Sudden Comey Firing: We’re Experiencing Nixon

May 9, 2017
Press Release
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) issued the following statement on President Trump’s sudden firing of F.B.I. Director James Comey.

“Calls for an independent commission have never been lip service. Week after week, this Administration has executed various maneuvers that seriously call into question the accountability of the President and his ties to Russia. Today is no different. Today, at the recommendation of an individual that has had to recuse himself from the very investigation the FBI is leading against the administration, President Trump has taken a wildly reckless and self-serving course of action by dismissing Director Comey.

"The timing is suspicious, the excuse is suspicious, the motive is suspicious. All this does is amplify the American people’s demand for a special prosecutor, the demand for an independent investigation, and the demand for the truth. To the young people wondering what it was like under the Nixon administration; this is it. You’re living it.”
