Rep. Bass Torches DOJ Plans to Attack Affirmative Action

August 2, 2017
Press Release
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) issued the following statement responding to a New York Times report that the Trump administration is planning to redirect resources from the civil rights division of the Department of Justice to attack affirmative action.

“This is nothing short of an all-out attack against black and brown students country-wide working hard for a better future. The President redirecting resources from the civil rights division of the Department of Justice to attack affirmative action is just the latest example of an answer to his rally cry asking the black community what we have to lose.

“If the President is genuinely concerned about unfair advantages in school admissions, perhaps he should stop families from making staggering donations as their child with low test scores begins the application process. All too often, people of color are seen as taking too much of the pie as we try to get our fair share. It’s outrageous and devastating to have to continue this debate.”
