February 24, 2020
Press Release
Washington – Today Congressmember Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, issued the following statement urging the Government of Cameroon to allow Maurice Kamto to safely return home.

“Last month, I met with Maurice Kamto to discuss good governance, human rights, and the violence taking place in the Anglophone Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon. I was encouraged when the Government of Cameroon released Mr. Kamto after months of detainment.

“I hope after his visit to the United States, Mr. Kamto can go back to his country without being detained or harmed. The Government of Cameroon and all opposition parties must collectively find a peaceful solution to the country’s conflict and end the violence. I will continue to diligently monitor Mr. Kamto’s safe return home and urge all parties to finally resolve this crisis.”
