In the letter, Rep. Bass highlighted extensive constituent complaints and demanded greater adherence to published minimum altitudes and the elimination of night flights below minimum altitudes. Rep. Bass also suggested that the FAA work with LAWA and others to reduce night flights over homes whenever safety permits.
"During the past year, there has been notable progress in areas outlined by the Five Track Engagement Plan (5TEP), including: Opening humanitarian access throughout the country; maintaining a cessation of hostilities in Darfur and the Two Areas (Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile State); ceasing support to South Sudanese rebel movements and cooperating on threats to regional security.
"By expelling 15 Cuban diplomats from the United States, Secretary Tillerson and the Trump Administration have adopted a hasty response without a thorough investigation into what actually transpired." Rep. Bass said.
“There are neighborhoods in Los Angeles that suffer hour after hour due to rampant and never-ceasing pollution and noise left by airplanes flying with no regard for previously agreed upon height regulation,” Rep. Bass said.
“The Jones Act has finally been waived but there’s still much to be done. The decimation being faced by millions of Americans in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the chain of Caribbean islands is devastating to say the least,” Rep. Bass said.
“Tonight, I'm signing a petition for an immediate vote on the bipartisan DREAM Act,” Rep. Bass said. “Especially in Los Angeles, DREAMers are students, teachers, coaches, mentors, entrepreneurs and community leaders from Jamaica, El Salvador, China and Sudan. They are from everywhere but the only place they aren't American is on paper.
“Grandparents and other relatives all over our nation step forward every day to provide a home and care for children when their biological parents are unable to do so,” Rep. Bass said. “These family members play a vital role in our child welfare system and often care for these children without the same resources as foster parents.
“Due to the current President’s proven willingness to slander the truth and exploit legal ambiguity for personal gain, we must explicitly forbid the possibility of a pardon for himself or his family,” Rep. Bass said. “Throughout this presidency, I’ve heard from thousands of constituents concerned about pardon power. The recent pardon of Joe Arpaio only amplified those concerns.
“The main focus of my amendments is to require the FAA to provide resources to address noise reduction on aircrafts and to increase funding research, development and the implementation of air traffic noise reduction technologies,” Bass said in her testimony before the committee.
“Trump's emphatic lack of empathy continues to destroy our communities and stain our reputation abroad. DREAMers aren't just "other country's kids." Especially in Los Angeles, they are students, teachers, coaches, mentors, entrepreneurs and community leaders from every continent. They’re from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. They're friends and they're family.
