"I am once again saddened to see Trump so ill-informed. Most of Africa is peaceful, and it is not at all accurate to characterize an entire continent through a conflict framework.
“During the discussion, our delegations focused on improving the relationship between our two countries and expanding business opportunities,” said Rep. Bass, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa.
“Slavery is a crime against humanity and we cannot sit idly by while people around the world are exploited,” Rep. Bass said. “In November, CNN broke a story about modern-day slavery in Libya. I am proud to lead this body today in responding to this human rights abuse. Today, we respond not just on behalf of ourselves, but on behalf of all Americans.
“Brett Kavanaugh is an absolutely disastrous nominee for the United States Supreme Court.
“The level of anxiety about just what this administration could do next has increased with every town hall I’ve hosted since last January.” Rep. Bass said. “It is so important to hear the priorities of those I’ve been sent to D.C. to serve and represent.
The questioning followed up on numerous hearings and testimony from top officials regarding the true origin of the report.
“The DRC is a strategically-located, resource-rich country which, unfortunately, has been horribly misgoverned for most of its history. This legislation supports the humanitarian and accountability efforts of civil society groups pushing back against civil strife and political repression,” said Rep Smith.
“This morning, the Supreme Court overturned 41 years of legal precedent to undermine the freedom of teachers, firefighters, police officers and all other public service workers to negotiate for decent pay and fair workplaces. I will continue to fight to strengthen our unions, to protect health care and retirement benefits, and to raise the wages of hardworking Angelinos.”
