Rep. Karen Bass issues statement on EPA finding Los Angeles AllenCo facility is violating federal law
Washington, DC – Representative Karen Bass (D-Calif.) released the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency finding that the South Los Angeles AllenCo site is violating federal law:
“Today the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) took an important and crucial step in protecting the health and safety of the residents who live and work around the AllenCo facility. The EPA concluded what too many residents have known—that AllenCo simply failed to maintain a safe facility and did not take the necessary steps to prevent accidental releases of extremely hazardous substances.
“AllenCo will now need to prove that they are in full compliance of federal law or the EPA can fine AllenCo up to $37,500 a day for each day it remains out of compliance.
“Urban drilling is becoming more and more common throughout Los Angeles, and I am committed to continuing to work with the EPA to ensure that all of the drillings sites in our city are in full compliance with federal law and that the health and environment of or communities are protected.”
