Jobs & the Economy
When Republicans in the House were determined to slash funding for unemployment benefits, I spoke to Los Angeles's hardworking unemployed people determined to find good jobs. Watch the video.
My top priority is to work towards rebuilding our nation’s economy and creating jobs for the American people. As the economy continues to grow, I will fight for our overburdened middle-class and for the small business owners of America. Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy, and I will fight to give tax credits to small businesses to hire new employees, restore the flow of credit to small businesses so they can grow and create jobs, and extend the research and development tax credit that encourages innovation and job creation.

“This morning, the Supreme Court overturned 41 years of legal precedent to undermine the freedom of teachers, firefighters, police officers and all other public service workers to negotiate for decent pay and fair workplaces. I will continue to fight to strengthen our unions, to protect health care and retirement benefits, and to raise the wages of hardworking Angelinos.”
On the campaign trail, then-candidate Donald J. Trump asked the African-American community “What do you have to lose?” in reference to voting for him. When the Rep. Bass and members of the CBC executive leadership team met with President Trump in March 2017, the caucus answered his question in the form a 130-page policy document titled, “We Have A Lot to Lose: Solutions to Advance Black Families in the 21st Century.” President Trump never responded to the document.
“With less than one month until Tax Day, many communities are still in a world of confusion,” said Rep. Bass. “Many deductions that Californians have relied on have been eliminated and the future impact of the overhaul will ultimately lead to increases in taxes for many Americans. Billion-dollar corporations are already benefitting from the plan while most Americans haven’t seen the pay raise that they were promised.
Passage of the GOP’s Tax Plan has thrown many communities into a world of confusion. Please join me on Saturday, March 10th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the main gym of Crenshaw High School to discover what to expect with the new GOP Tax Plan. At this resource fair, you will be able to:
“It’s time for Congress to get its priorities straight and give our communities what they need,” Rep. Bass said. “We’ve got to move past solely responding to the president’s recklessness. When Republicans talk about repealing the Affordable Care Act, they’re talking about not only ripping health care away from millions, but also taking away jobs. That’s where we need to focus. Democrats are working to bring better jobs and wages for a better future.”
